Navigating the world of social media in the aftermath of any election of can be tricky. Like most people, I seek the company of varied folks, some of whom think like me and some of whom don’t. But if talking politics or religion in person can be fraught, handling the topic online is downright dangerous.
Although I am not Roman Catholic, this has been no less true of the recent papal election and at the end of several heated exchanges about the problems and the promise of Pope Francis, something occurred to me. Every disagreement I’ve had about this Pope is rooted in a single but profound misapprehension:
